The Stowe Cooperative Nursery School has enhanced its After Care Enrichment Program with a new creative curriculum. The After Care Program runs from 1:00pm until 5:30pm and enrollment in the program is open to any potty-trained child between the ages of 3 and 5. Each month will focus on a new theme expressed through a combination of art and related readings. For the month of October, teachers Riley and Kelly will focus on nature and how to incorporate materials from nature into art. For example, children will paint with sticks, on rocks, collaging with leaves, and building sculptures with branches. When possible, children will spend time collaborating on projects outside. Riley has built a small nature book library - children can choose a book of the day that will be read together as part of the afternoon curriculum. Stories by artists about what inspires them in the creative process will also be shared. Children will also have an opportunity to come up with their own project ideas using found objects from outdoors - or creating dimensional objects having to do with nature.
